3,000 Michigan kids, parents expected at Capitol for Star Power 2010

WHO:
•3,000 parents, children and other early childhood advocates and supporters from across the state worried about continued state funding of programs for Michigan’s youngest citizens – kids from birth to age 5. With that many people wearing bright-yellow “Star Power” T-shirts, they’re not to be missed!
• Lawmakers meeting with parents and kids on the Capitol lawn. (See attached schedule to catch the interaction with your local lawmaker.)

WHAT: Fourth annual Star Power gathering at the State Capitol, sponsored by the Early Childhood Investment Corp. and the 55 Great Start Collaboratives and Great Start Parent Coalitions across the state.

WHEN: Wednesday, May 19, 2010
•10 a.m. Parade of Flags
•10:30 a.m. Program
•11 a.m. Legislative Meetings/Activities
•2 p.m. Closing Activities

WHERE: State Capitol Building, front steps and front lawn

WHY: Participants will meet with individual legislators to stress the critical social and economic importance of continued investment in early childhood programs.
